Magic vs Raptors Prediction and Odds (Take Scrappy Magic as the Road Underdog)

The 34-28 Toronto Raptors host the 15-48 Orlando Magic in a minor slump tonight at 7:30 p.m. EST. They’re only 2-6 against the spread (ATS) in their last eight games and will be without All-Star Fred VanVleet for the fourth year in a row.

On the other hand, Orlando has won two out of three and covered the spread in three out of five, but the competition has been light.

With VanVleet out, will Toronto set the ship in order with a convincing home win or will Orlando have the upper hand?

Neither side has inspired much confidence lately. Upstart Magic is going through the growing pains that come with playing almost exclusively young people. With Cole Anthony, Wendell Carter, Mo Bamba and rookie Franz Wagner at the helm, experienced isn’t exactly the first word one would use to describe Orlando.

Toronto certainly has experience, championship experience, but they’ve been maddeningly inconsistent. They struggled to start the year, then demolished in 10 of 11 wins before heading into a few more troubled weeks.

The Raptors have failed to cover as home favorites in three straight games, but Orlando is only 2-5 in their last seven as street underdogs. However, dig a little deeper and we can find the value of the magic.

Orlando’s recent games on the road have been against brutal competition, against the Nuggets, Suns, Jazz, Bulls, 76ers and Mavericks. Talk about a killer spree. But before this stretch, they were 7-1 ATS in their last eight as underdogs on the road.

With the state of the Raptors, they’re not quite as good as the other teams the Magic has fought. I think Toronto will win, but I like the rowdy Orlando squad staying close.

Choice: Magic +8 (-110)
