Logan Storley defeats Michael “Venom” Page at Bellator 281

Michael Page and Logan Storley met in the Main Event at Bellator 281.

Logan Storley and Michael Page met at the Bellator 281 with Bellator’s interim welterweight championship at stake. The main event was the crowning of the interim champion as current champion Yaroslav Amosov is currently defending his native Ukraine from Russian aggression.

The first lap was all Storley, who grabbed MVP early and rode him around the ring but did little actual damage. The second round started far more favorably for Page, but Storley was able to grab Page again and drag Page to the ground. Page landed some great shots to start the third, but Storley went back to doing the wrestling thing.

Page was able to stay on his feet much longer in the fourth round, and while Storley tripped him, Storley most likely lost that round. A misguided flying knee to start the fifth allowed Storely to catch Page and ride him until the fight ended.

Logan Storley proved he had a better game plan than Michael Page

Page is undoubtedly the more exciting fighter, but Storley appeared to be the smarter fighter and found ways to weaken Page’s movement at Bellator 281. Sure, Storley didn’t make his fight with Page look like Alfie Davis and Tim Wilde in the 281 prelims, but Storley did his job and won that fight decisively.

This is one reason the original fight involving Page and Amosov was so incongruous as it would have done the same to Page. Amosov and Storley went to work and Amosov was able to thwart much of Storley’s game plan and they are both grapplers.

Storley revealed Page’s inability to defend the takedown and grappling. It probably would have gone the same way if Amosov had been in the fight instead of Storley. One can only hope he’ll be better prepared when Page gets another title shot.
