Thursday’s Premier League action will see second-placed Liverpool host 19th-placed Newcastle to Anfield in Game 17. The Reds have won seven consecutive matches in all competitions, while the team visitors have one win out of 16, looking like serious relegation candidate. The Reds need to win to retain a point against Manchester City after the leaders beat Leeds 7-0 on Tuesday.

Here’s the plot, how you can watch the match, and more:

How to watch and odds

  • Day: Thursday, December 16 | Time: 3 p.m. ET
  • Location: Anfield – Liverpool, England
  • Direct: Peacock
  • The odds: Liverpool -850; Draw +800; Newcastle +2100 (according to Caesars Sportsbook)

Plot

Liverpool: Striker Roberto Firmino returned to training from injury in October and he is expected to be available under manager Jurgen Klopp. Curtis Jones is also expected to return from an eye injury. Backup striker Divock Origi could miss the game with what the manager considers a “minor problem”.

Newcastle: They have officially bottomed out with a 4-0 loss to Leicester City, and that will force Eddie Howe to adjust. The team is off balance, lacking cohesion and soon he will be facing some serious pressure. They have scored twice in the last four games and average just over one goal per game. Against a Liverpool that loves to advance but is also very possessive, Howe’s side will need a few assists from the lucky woman to have a chance of winning even a point.

Guess

Mohamed Salah scored twice in the first half and the Reds headed for another easy win. Pick: Liverpool 4, Newcastle 0
