Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been quite open about his stance against mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations for all players since the pandemic peaked a few months ago. Now that a significant number of Liverpool players have tested positive for a resurgence of the virus, the German leader is naturally asked some serious questions.
However, he responded by saying they had been very cautious in following the protocols and mentioned that the players themselves were ‘surprised’ by the test results because despite some doubts before There they were all fully vaccinated.
Liverpool’s three star players – Virgil Van Dijk, Fabinho and Curtis Jones, all showed positive results before the match against Newcastle in the Premier League, which prevented them from being included in the typical squad. It was not too much of a problem for the Red Devils as they beat the magpies quite easily with a score of 3-1. However, in his post-match meeting, Jurgen Klopp said that under his assumption it is likely that many Liverpool players will test positive for the virus soon. This situation confused the Red Devils leadership because none of them showed any expression.
What does Jurgen Klopp say?
Jurgen Klopp said during the meeting, “We hope [it’s contained]. The situation is difficult for us, for the whole world. We woke up pretty much this morning and had three positive cases.”
“The procedure we do at the training ground now is that before entering the training ground, we do the lateral flow test and get on the car again.”
The manager revealed that they have regular daily COVID-19 tests before leaving for training and so there is a high chance that the three reports could be false. However, that also increases the chances of other positive reports.
“We are waiting for the results and in these moments we have three positive tests. Obviously it’s not that great.
“We wait for confirmation, as there is still the possibility of false positives, but today, we cannot wait for that.
“I had to make the decision to send the boys home, so we have three players on the pitch, two of them obviously starting today.
Despite the chaos that has been created recently due to the increase in cases, Jurgen Klopp does not consider it necessary to stop the Premier League as it would be a hasty decision.
“Of course that’s no reason to cancel tonight’s game, or even claim it. We will see how it develops now.
“This virus has been around for so long that it’s been around for so long that it’s not really likely that it will be around at 3 years old. Guys don’t have a lot of free time to go anywhere they can pick up.
“All of them are fully vaccinated, two of them have booster shots, and that can still happen. That’s just the way it is.
“But we have a really, really good chance that the boys can get through it right now without the proper symptoms.
“So far they have not had any symptoms, they are more surprised than us that they have contracted the disease. But that’s what you have to accept and that’s what we do. Hopefully they come back soon again.”
