That LIV golf series has caused much controversy lately as it has plunged the golfing world into a hostile divide. While several golfers are making the switch and facing the wrath of the PGA and DP Tours, there are others who have stayed loyal. One can see how tempting it can be for just about anyone to offer 7 or 8 digits as salary, but others wonder how they can overlook the show’s Saudi support. More recently, however, Greg Norman blasted the PGA Tour and its commissioner, Jay Monahan.

Norman is surprised the PGA hasn’t come to the table to settle things. “(PGA Tour Commissioner) Jay Monahan, if he had the decency to take over our meetings from the start, none of this stuff would be there today.” Norman said, according to Fox Sports. He felt that if they could sort things out, the game of golf would be in a much better place – and more importantly, the Tour would be in a much better place.

Names like Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Ian Poulter and Phil Mickelson – to name a few – have made the switch to this new breakaway series. Norman believes the PGA Tour has become too lax with their players as they assumed they were a monopoly – the new tour comes as a huge shock to them. “They were resting on their laurels thinking they were the only game in town, they were the monopolist, they could control the game and that’s how it will be. From a player’s perspective, I’ve always said that the Tour works for us, we don’t work for the Tour. And I was in the minority with that voice.”

Norman knew he would get backlash from the PGA. He understands the new tour is different but says it’s sad. “I think the PGA Tour, I really feel sorry for them because they really hurt themselves with the rhetoric they’re putting out. I took the main road. OK, you want to say those stupid things, go ahead. Our business model has held its own against players and they absolutely love it. Our product has proven itself with players and fans and they absolutely love it.” LIV Golf are expected to announce the next wave of signed players shortly, including Henrik Stenson.
