Lions fans will love Jameson Williams’ reason for picking No. 18

Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver Jameson Williams revealed why he picked the No. 18, and he’ll win plenty of fans for it.
The Detroit Lions had a first round that fans will long remember. Not only did Michigan pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson fall to the Lions in the #2 pick, but they struck a deal with the Minnesota Vikings to trade for Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams.
Williams was spotted in the No. 18 jersey at the Lions rookie minicamp. At a meeting with the media, Williams revealed that he picked the number as a nod to former Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson.

While number 18 was a reference to “Megatron,” Williams also said he chose it because Randy Moss wore the exact same number when he played for the then-Oakland Raiders.
Williams was one of the top wide receivers in this year’s draft class and could have been picked higher. However, he suffered a cruciate ligament tear while playing for Alabama in the CFP National Championship Game.
In 15 games last season with the Crimson Tide, Williams recorded 79 receptions for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Williams is the first wide receiver to be selected in the first round by Detroit since Johnson in 2008. 46 there.
Now he’s joining a Lions offense with Jared Goff as quarterback and will line up alongside wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown, who had a stellar rookie season in 2021.
