Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo may play together in the Saudi Pro League after the PSG superstar’s contract expired

We could see two long-time rivals and soccer GOATS Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo play together in the Saudi Pro League after the Argentine is said to be close to a departure in the summer.

Lionel Messi’s contract with Paris Saint Germain expires this June and rumors suggest that he is now closer to leaving the club than signing a contract extension. As a result, some clubs are now interested in signing the world champion captain. Previously, it was believed that a verbal agreement had been reached between both parties, but Messi apparently wants a move after winning the World Cup in Qatar last December.

Messi will have many clubs vying for his signature. A return to Barcelona and a move to David Beckham’s Inter Miami are possible. Another is a potential move to the Saudi Pro League as Messi is already an ambassador for the country for its tourism industry. He has also previously stated that he would like to play with Ronaldo one day.

In 2015 he was asked if he would like to play with Ronaldo one day. He said: “Yes, of course. I always like to play with the best and he is one of them. I think it will be difficult for us to play in the same team, but of course I would like to do that. I’ve been fortunate to play and participate with a lot of very good players and of course I’d love to do it with him too.”

Ronaldo joined Saudi club Al Nassr in January after mutually terminating his contract with Manchester United in November after falling out with club hierarchy and manager Erik Ten Haag. He now earns around £173million, making him the highest paid footballer in the world.
