Lil Durk injured after being hit by pyrotechnics in Lollapalooza

Lil Durk has announced he is taking a break to focus on his health after he was hit by an explosive pyrotechnics during his performance at the Lollapalooza on Saturday.

The rapper was just about to perform his 2020 hit “Back In Blood” when he accidentally ran into two pyrotechnic smoke flares on stage. Videos on social media show Durk tripping and wiping his eyes with his shirt after the incident.

The stage crew quickly ran to his aid when someone on the mic said, “Woah, woah, are you alright bro? [The smoke] Shot straight up.” Without leaving the stage, Durk took a moment to collect himself before continuing with the rest of his performance.

However, it appears that the unfortunate mishap left Durk with some lasting effects. On Sunday, the rapper shared a photo of himself in the hospital with a bandage covering his right eye.

“Due to the incident that happened onstage at the Lollapalooza in Chicago, I’m taking a break and focusing on my health,” he said in the caption. “I finished my performance for my fans yesterday. Appreciate everyone.”

Artists like Trippie Redd and Nav have sent their well wishes to Durk via his Instagram comments. Some fans have directed their anger at the festival for failing to protect its artists.

Durk joined a stacked lineup of artists for the four-day festival, which concludes Sunday night. Saturday’s sets included headlining J. Cole, Big Sean and girlfriend Jhené Aiko, Tomorrow X Together and Willow Smith. Sunday’s headliners include BTS’ J-Hope (the first South Korean artist to headline the main stage) and Green Day.
