Gael Monfils and Elina Monfils (Svitolina) are a power couple in the tennis world. Elina Svitolina is a Ukrainian tennis player and former world No. 3. She has 16 career titles and is the first Ukrainian woman to make the top 10. Her husband Gael Monfils has won 11 career titles and had the highest ranking of world No. 6. He recently announced he won’t be playing in the Monte Carlo Masters due to a foot injury and advised rest. He once said his wife gave him the strength to keep going.
Elina Svitolina is the 2018 WTA Finals winner and 2021 Olympic bronze medalist. She recently took a hiatus due to the Russia-Ukraine War. Since the war began, Elina has competed in three tournaments: the 2022 Monterrey Open, the 2022 Indian Wells Open and the 2022 Miami Open.
After the Miami Open, Elina stated that she was taking an indefinite break from tennis because she was finding it difficult to compete while her nation was in turmoil. She’s now committed to sending a strong message through social media. “Life went on, but it was never the same again…” She wrote sharing a picture of herself.
Fans support Elina Svitolina in their decision!
Gael Monfils has previously said that his wife’s mental toughness is amazing as she took part in the tournaments even though her country was suffering brutally. Fans have also shown their support for Elina in her decision to take some time off, find some rest and pray for the well being of her country.
The fans would love to see her back on the courts, but they understand how difficult it must be to see the people suffer, the cities she called home destroyed by shells and mortars, monuments and historical places decimated become, and people fight for their country. Elina Svitolina is a fighter and we hope she finds strength in these difficult times.
