Leon Edwards claims title fight against Kamaru Usman, pending for UFC London

What a story the second fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman had! The two welterweights previously fought each other, with Kamaru taking the win and Leon having a long way to go to fight again. The second match went to Leon after a brutal last minute knockout and now a third fight is set to take place soon.

Kamaru Usman has suffered many injuries in his long career and it seems the wear and tear is finally getting the better of him. He took some time off to recover after fighting Edwards for the first time, but even now he seems to be moving around with bandages around his hand. This led many to speculate that the third fight could be cancelled.

What does Leon Edwards say about the title fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman?

Speaking on the Believe You Me podcast, Brits had this to say: “Yes 100 per cent, I’ve been told that, my team have been told that. I spoke to the UFC last week I think and they said, ‘The fight is going on, he’s already training for the fight.’ That’s what I’m aiming for, and if something changes in the meantime, we’ll continue from there. But now my focus is on the Usman trilogy in London.”

Speaking of his opponent, the Jamaican said: “I just want to see how he reacts to being beaten cold and see how he reacts traveling to the UK, see how crazy the fans are and just see how he comes back, because he’s not getting any younger. He’s what, 35, 36? Maybe older? Let’s see how he comes back.”

Referring to his impressive CV in Britain, the current champion said: “It’s going to be a very different fight – I said so, my trainers said so. I’ve never lost in the UK, amateur or professional, so I’m excited. I love fighting in front of my friends and family and yes I think it will be a very different fight. If he thinks he’s going in there and it’s going to be the same fight, he’s in for a rude awakening.”

If the Kamaru fight doesn’t happen, the Leon can get revenge on Jorge Masvidal for the previous backstage altercation. For now, it seems like the triology might actually happen.
