Veer Mahaan made his long-awaited WWE debut on Raw after Wrestlemania, and he immediately took on WWE Legend Rey Mysterio and his Dominik. The following Monday on Raw, he faced Dominik in a singles match and brutally crushed him. Dominik is said to be out for a while now. However, the journey has not been as easy as we all might think.

When he first appeared in WWE as Rinku Singh, he weighed just 150 pounds and now Veer Mahaan weighs 256 pounds. Veer Mahaan’s journey, efforts and hard work are clearly represented in this statistic.

Rinku Singh originally made headlines in 2008 after winning the pitching competition for the reality TV program Million Dollar Arm in which he left Gopiganj, Uttar Pradesh for the United States. He then became the first Indian to play professional baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Rinku and Another Pitcher Dinesh Patel’s trip to the United States was featured in the 2014 film Million Dollar Arm, starring John Hamm (of Mad Men fame).

Rinku, who competes in WWE under the ring name Veer Mahaan, was a recent guest on the Times of India Sportscast podcast where he spoke at length about his life journey. Rinku has eight siblings, and his life has taken him down a path that saw him leave home and family at a young age. However, he is grateful that he was able to serve his family from a young age.

“In the beginning it was tough. I thought as a professional athlete everything was very easy and simple because we athletes pick things up very, very easily. But as I stepped into the ring, I realized that what a WWE Superstar does in the ring is unlike any other sport,” said Rinku.

Mahaan then continued by saying: “It’s been tough being away from my family since I was 17, but I feel like there are many things you have to sacrifice when you’re trying to achieve greatness. And I feel like every time I’ve dedicated time to either baseball or WWE, it’s always paid off hugely. I may not be physically there for my family, but I am always there to support my family financially.”
