Leeds-Aston Villa match postponed as Premier League COVID-19 crisis continues

Leeds UnitedPremier League clash with Aston Villa on December 28 at Elland Road became the latest game to be postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team also watched their Gift Day match at Liverpool postponed after positive COVID-19 cases in the team.

A Leeds statement on Sunday read: “We can confirm that our Premier League match against Aston Villa on 28 December 2021 has been postponed.

“Although there are no new COVID cases in the playing team, the majority of those who tested positive before the Liverpool game have yet to come out of isolation.

“So we still don’t have enough recognized first-team players to meet the Premier League’s requirements for the fixture.

“All tickets purchased [general and hospitality] for the match against Aston Villa which will come into effect on the rescheduling date, details will be communicated in due time.

“In the meantime, we hope that all of our supporters enjoyed a wonderful Christmas. Please stay safe and take care of each other. Marching together.”

Villa manager Steven Gerrard missed the game at Elland Road after he tested positive for COVID-19. Before England Internationals will not be present in the match against Villa’s Boxing Day with Chelsea.

The fixture becomes the 14th Premier League match to be postponed amid the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

When things settle down, the five Giveaways Day matches will go according to plan, though Crystal Palace Coach Patrick Vieira will be absent after he also tested positive for COVID-19.
