LeBron James was brutally torched for his “strong” reaction to the Tire Nichols incident

On Friday, the NBA was filled with outrage, frustration, sadness and anger after video was released of Nichols, a 29-year-old father who was killed by five Memphis police officers. The NBA and National Basketball Players Association sent words of support to the family.

The league’s emotions were evident given the number of other incidents of police violence against black men and women that have occurred in recent years. NBA star LeBron James also commented on this tragedy, which apparently did not go down well with the fans.

The police officers, all black, are all charged with second-degree murder, as well as aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, misconduct and suppression of office.

King James tweeted, “WE ARE OUR OWN WORSE ENEMY!!!” which didn’t come across as any sympathy. As the face of the NBA, LeBron should have taken a strong stance against the violence, which he clearly didn’t do. Fans criticize him for washing his hands with a responsibility to speak out.

LBJ continued to fuel the fire by retweeting a post that reads, “What is really clear about some reactions to the murder of #TyreNichols is that we have failed to fully understand race and its construction as a systemic tool . The whole police system sees the black body as a problem. It doesn’t matter who pulls the trigger.”

Some people pointed out the NBA star for his racial bias. Fans even claimed that LeBron wouldn’t care if the victim was white.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that doesn’t mean it’s taken seriously. And athletes and other celebrities are entitled to their opinions, and we learn they are under pressure to speak out. But if they’re just doing publicity stunts like kneeling or hiding in the locker room or putting a profound message on their helmet, they’re in for some nasty criticism.

LeBron may have had an innocuous intention, but a topic like this certainly catches everyone’s attention and no comment on it goes unnoticed.
