League of Legends publishes a novel about Kalista’s attempt to heal Queen Isolde

Riot Games holds no punches when it comes to expanding the lore of its universes, and we’re getting another story set in the world of Runeterra. Starting off the coals of Arcane’s success, Riot Games announced an upcoming novel called Ruination.

Written by Riot Games lead writer Anthony Reynolds, this story will be “[tell] the story of Kalista, King Viego’s military general, on a quest to discover a legendary realm that might have access to ancient magic – the only way to cure poisoned Queen Isolde.”

This is described as the “foundational story” for the League of Legends universe and will help put some of the game’s key characters into context. Senior Vice President and Editor of Orbit US hopes this story will “enthrall not only the millions of League of Legends players, but anyone who loves epic adventures set in fantastical worlds.”

Ruination is published in print, e-book and audio formats. The book will be released in September 2022 in the United States and United Kingdom, with international versions also expected. Reynolds has previously worked creating stories for Riot Games and published the novella Garen: First Shield. He also has experience writing books set in the Warhammer universe.
