War in Ukraine: What you need to know
The newest: Ukrainian officials believe the deadly attacks on an apartment building and a recreation center in the Odessa region were retaliation by Russia after it was forced to withdraw from strategically important Snake Island earlier this week. The Kremlin, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary, claimed it was only targeting military infrastructure.
The fight: A slowly regenerating Russian army is gaining ground in eastern Ukraine against brave but under-equipped Ukrainian forces. The United States and its allies are scrambling to supply the massive amounts of arms the Ukrainians desperately need to keep the Russians at bay.
The weapons: Ukraine uses weapons such as Javelin anti-tank missiles and Switchblade “kamikaze” drones provided by the United States and other allies. Russia has used a variety of weapons against Ukraine, some of which have drawn the attention and concern of analysts.
