Oscar winner Samuel L. Jackson plays a man undergoing an experimental treatment to restore his memory in the Apple TV+ adaptation of the Walter Mosley novel.
What if there’s a treasure map, but you can’t remember where it is?
Based on the novel by best-selling author Walter Mosley, the upcoming Apple TV+ limited series “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey“Star Samuel L. Jackson as Ptolemy Grey, a sick man alone in the world battling dementia. After Ptolemy is tasked with taking care of orphaned teenager Robyn (Dominique Fishback), he is able to regain his memories thanks to a new treatment. While Ptolemy can only access a lifetime’s worth of memories, he begins to uncover a buried treasure before the clock runs out.
“You have to let the river go its way,” Jackson as Ptolemy says in the trailer, “and the river knows just where it’s going.”
The six-part series stars Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, Damon Gupton, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Walton Goggins, and Omar Miller. Premiering with the first two episodes on March 11, a new episode will be released every Friday. Watch the trailer for “The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray” below.
Author Mosley adapted the screenplay from his novel and serves as an executive producer alongside partners Diane Houslin and Jackson. Ramin Bahrani, Eli Selden, and David Levine also executive produce for Anonymous Content, alongside LaTanya Richardson.
Apple TV+ has a bunch of new streaming TV projects in the works with Oscar winners like Jackson. Gary Oldman is slated to star in the spy thriller “Slow Horses”, which opens April 1, based on the novel about British intelligence agents serving in the landfill department of the UK. MI5. Kristin Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce, Jack Lowden and Olivia Cooke also star.
Emmy Award winner Elisabeth Moss joins another literary adaptation with “Shining Girls,” playing fictional Chicago newspaper archivist Kirby Mazrachi, whose career has stalled after an assault. When Kirby (Moss) learns of a recent murder that reflects her attack, she teams up with seasoned reporter Dan Velazquez (Wagner Moura) to uncover her attacker.
Apple TV+ will also launch a four-part documentary series “They Call Me Magic” centered on NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson. “With unprecedented access, the documentary explores Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson’s remarkable journey from becoming the face of the Los Angeles Lakers and establishing himself as an all-time NBA legend, to changing the conversation around HIV and turning into a successful entrepreneur and community activist,” the official description reads. “From his humble beginnings in Lansing, Michigan to becoming the global force it is today, ‘They Call Me Magic’ features intimate interviews with Magic, his family and a roster all-star, as archives rank the cinematic life of one of the greatest cultural icons of our time. ”
