Lance Stroll and Nicholas Latifi have a war of words after a ‘ridiculous’ and ’embarrassing’ qualifying crash in Australia » FirstSportz

Qualifying for the Australian GP was quite eventful. During the last session before the main race we saw several red flags and cars running on gravel. And the highlight of the session was the crash between Aston Martin lance walk and Williams’ Nicholas Latifi. Stroll himself called the crash “awkward” and “ridiculous.”
Nicholas Latifi, in conversation with SkySports F1 and as quoted by racingnews365.comcalled, “I let him through because he was pushing to open the lap, so I was told, and then I saw he had stopped the lap, so I wanted to get on with my own pre-lap, so I passed him. There was a big gap and as soon as I somehow got past him he does it at the turn for some reason. From the video I can see [so] there is nothing more to say.”
Lance Stroll said in his defense: “We were on a cool lap. I saw the video; He suddenly tried to pass me in a very awkward part of the track. The circuit drops to the right and then to the left where that is. I think what happened at an awkward part of the track was just really awkward. He suddenly tried to get past me and it gets tighter as the track drops further to the right and then we make contact. It’s pretty ridiculous.”
Who’s to blame? Nicholas Latifi or Lance Stroll?

The incident happened on Stroll’s outside lap and was immediately investigated. The crash was harsh and resulted in an immediate red flag for Q1.
After the race, the stewards announced their verdict. Lance Stroll was found guilty of causing the accident and received two penalty points on his racing license and a three-place grid penalty, moving the driver to P19 for the race.
Lance Stroll’s penalty was imposed due to a “lack of situational awareness” which has added to concerns for Aston Martin. The team that somehow managed to line up Stroll’s car for qualifying will have to make another effort to get it running for the race.
