Lakers projected lineup, post-trade rotation for Patrick Beverley

The Lakers caused quite a stir Thursday night when they traded for Patrick Beverley

On Wednesday evening, the Los Angeles Lakers and Utah jazz struck Deal for Patrick Beverly that was Breeding ground for memes and reactions given the lack of friendship between Russell Westbrook and Pat Bev Talen Horton-Tucker and Stanley Johnson are the outgoing Lakers figures, meaning the Lakers rotation will look a little different going forward.

Patrick Beverley brings some intensity and competitive anticipation to a Lakers team that completely missed the postseason last year. Los Angeles has higher expectations and Beverly’s energy will certainly help make that clear on a daily basis.

Once a thorn in the side of the Lakers when he was a rival in the same building with the LA Clippers, Beverley’s borderline defensive style is now moving to the Lakers’ side in the crypto dot com arena.

The Los Angeles Lakers lineup after Patrick Beverley’s trade

We expect the Lakers starting lineup after Patrick Beverley’s trade to look like this unless further action is taken:

  • Pointguard: Russell Westbrook
  • Shooting Guard: Lonnie Walker IV
  • Small Forward: LeBron James
  • Power Forward: Anthony Davis
  • Middle: Thomas Bryant

There are no changes in the starting XI as a result of this deal. Westbrook was poor last season but Beverley comes off the bench best to bring some fire into the second unit. That brings us to the real changes, the rotation.

Los Angeles Lakers rotation after Patrick Beverley trade

  • Point Guards: Russell Westbrook, Patrick Beverley, Kendrick Nunn, LeBron James
  • Shooting guards: Lonnie Walker IV, Juan Toscano-Anderson, Austin Reaves
  • Small forwards: LeBron James, Troy Brown Jr.
  • Power Forwards: Anthony Davis, LeBron James, Wenyen Gabriel, Stanley Johnson
  • Center: Thomas Bryant, Anthony Davis, Damian Jones

It’s okay Lakers fans, you can let out a collective groan at the launch point guard.

Since training camp hasn’t started yet, this rotation is anything but set in stone. LeBron played most of his minutes at the fours last season, but the addition of Thomas Bryant allows Anthony Davis to start in his more natural position, which also throws James back to the small forward, where he’s most comfortable, at least to beginning.

Other notable fringe aspects of the pre-season rotation:

  • Toscano-Anderson and Reaves could fight for second place
  • Both Nunn and Beverly could campaign for the starting point guard spot if Westbrook is still on the team and hasn’t made any progress from last season
  • If needed, Davis could switch back to center, which would bring James back to the four, similar to last season
  • Fringe players who could round out the end of the rotation depending on preseason performance: Scotty Pippen Jr. (PG), Cole Swider (SF), Max Christie (G), Javante McCoy (G), Fabian White Jr. (F), Jay Huff (C).

Of course, it’s very likely that the Lakers are willing to move away from Westbrook if they find a suitor who will mess up this rotation even further. Lakers projected lineup, post-trade rotation for Patrick Beverley
