Kyrie Irving on Celtics fans: ‘Like a scorned ex-girlfriend’

Kyrie Irving may have been an all-star in his two seasons with the Boston Celtics, but that doesn’t mean he has a great relationship with Celtics fans.

It’s been a few years Kyrie Irving left the Boston Celtics for the Brooklyn Networksbut things between him and his former team’s fans don’t seem to have improved.

as the athlete‘s Alex Schiffer tweets, Irving explained that he never expects to receive a warm and friendly welcome when he plays in Boston. According to Irving, the whole dynamic is a lot like that of a pretty bad breakup.

As Irving very eloquently explains, Celtics fans are like “a despised friend” who happens to want a “text back.”

It’s safe to say that Irving didn’t exactly win over Boston fans with this quote.

All in all, things weren’t going too well for Irving and the Nets, as it turns out. Despite the phenomenal odds and some really impressive plays from Irving’s teammate Kevin Durant, the Celtics were just too much for the Nets on Sunday night.

While Irving and Durant have 56 points combined, Celtics star Jayson Tatum scored 54 points alone to lead Boston to a 126-120 win over Brooklyn. That kind of dominance from Tatum is just hard to break, and the Nets just couldn’t beat one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. It happens.
