Kylie Gillies’ heartwarming special gift to her mom: ’50 years in the making’

The Morning Show co-host Kylie Gillies has surprised her mother with a special sapphire ring that her father gave her mother 50 years ago.

Kylie shared an emotional video on Instagram over the weekend, showing her mother Marg overcome with emotion after seeing the ring.

“A story in the making for 50 years,” Kylie captioned the heartwarming post.

“In the 1970s, my father gave my mother a sapphire. A Loose Stone – from (NSW Town) Inverell.

“It sat wrapped up in a small brown envelope in Mom’s drawer for decades.

“I recently asked her why. She said: “Well, we’re not the kind of people who get jewelry made. And there were always other priorities, I think.

Kylie said she’s sure those “other priorities” are her and her sister and “all the things that young girls need and want.”

“And mum and dad never put themselves first,” she said.

Kylie went on to explain that the family’s thoughts turned to sapphire following the recent death of her father.

“Mum said Dad always loved her (sapphires) and really wanted Mum to have a sapphire engagement ring,” she wrote.

“That was in 1963!

“We thought it was time to do something.

“Our eternal thanks to @houseofkdor for turning this little rock into something big for our family.”

Kylie then poignantly added, “We just wish Dad was here to see it too.”

In the video, Kylie’s mother cries as she opens the jewelry box containing the ring.

Kylie’s father Ron died in August 2021 at the age of 91.

Announcing the loss, she wrote at the time: “Our beloved father… A beloved husband to my mother for 57 years and a grandpa to four grandchildren who adored him.

“We are heartbroken but grateful,” she added.

“You’ve taken care of us all for so long.

“Ron Mills 8/10/1930 – 8/31/2021.”

Kylie’s Instagram followers loved the special ring that was made for her mother.

“Just perfect,” wrote Larry Emdur, co-host of The Morning Show.

“So beautiful,” added Rachael Finch.

“Oh Kyles, how lovely,” Sally Obermeder wrote, adding a crying face emoji.

“Made me cry,” wrote another follower.

“I’m sure your dad watched from above, exhilarated knowing his wish would come true 50 years later,” added another.
