Kyle Larson claims his Road America P3 was “successful by its standards” despite finishing well short of the top 2 in terms of speed

Last Sunday NASCAR event at Wisconsin’s Road America circular saw Tyler Reddick’s #8 Vehicle driven by Richard Childress Racing, cross the checkered flag for the first time in 92 Cup Series appearances. Due to their fierce front stretch battle, Tyler Reddick and Chase Eliot finished with a clear lead over the rest of the field. Tyler Reddick held the lead over Elliott for the last 16 laps.

Kyle Larson, the defending Cup Series champion despite finishing P3 in the race, was simply the best of the bunch considering he finished well behind the duo of Tyler Reddick and Chase Elliott in terms of speed. While Larson isn’t able to match teammate Chase Elliott’s speed on the street courses, it’s understandable that the latter is a clear street course expert, but it doesn’t have to feel as good for Larson that Tyler Reddick, who’s from the same Same racing background and with limited cup experience was able to pass him.

Kyle Larson competed on Sunday after a disappointing end to his Xfinity outing when he was passed by Young Ty Gibbs towards the end of the race while he was in the lead. Larson, in his post-race interview, offered his thoughts on what racing at Road America was like for him and what may have given Tyler Reddick and Chase Elliott the advantage over others on the track.

Kyle Larson acknowledged that Tyler Reddick and Chase Elliott were really good throughout the race and said that while he seemed okay early on, the duo were able to slowly build a gap on him. He went on to say he had no idea what could have created the advantage, but said it could have had a pretty good grip. He conceded that they are really good road racers, probably better than him, and he’s happy with the top 3 as he finds them successful by his standards.

“Tyler and Chase were really good during one run. I seemed fine early on and then would kind of slowly fade away from them. You know I don’t really know Felt pretty good to be honest, but they just must have had better grip. They were really good racers. Honestly probably a little bit better than me. Yes it was a good clean race for us, we were happy to finish in the top 3 and yes it was successful by my standards‘ said Kyle Larson.

Kyle Larson went on to say that there were quite a few first-time winners in 2022, five to be exact, which he thinks is really cool. He went on to say that Tyler Reddick has been out of the bubble this week so the win is great for him. He added that the win is also special for Northern California fans as they both grew up racing there together, adding that he knows Lowell and Becky Morale will be proud of Reddick’s win.

Yeah, that’s quite a lot of winners, and really cool, a lot of first-time winners. Yes, Tyler was off the bubble I think when he came in this week and it was great that he won. It’s something special for the Northern California fans out there. Tyler and I grew up racing together on the West Coast, and I know that Lowell and Becky Morale will take pride in being neat and hats off to him and their teamadded Kyle Larson.
