Due to Pickett’s short participation in the bout, the two fighters agreed to compete in an attractive weight division.

Daukaus entered the fray with only one win in his last four battles. In his final battle, Daukaus and Kevin Holland fought inconclusively after an accidental clash of heads ended the fight. With the win, Daukaus improved to 11-2, with an uncontested one.

It took Pickett several tries to get into the UFC. Pickett lost twice in Dana White’s Contenders Series before eventually earning the contract on the third attempt. After losing his first two fights in the UFC, Pickett had won his previous two fights.
