Kochie comforts co-host Natalie Barr as final show brings Sunrise viewers to tears

Outgoing Sunrise host David “Kochie” Koch grabbed the hand of his co-host Natalie Barr as she struggled to say anything after an emotional parting session.
Emotions ran high on set during Friday’s show as Kochie stepped through a guard of honor made up of crew members, producers, co-hosts and everyone who works behind the scenes to bring the show to life.

Some of the staff had worked with Kochie throughout his 21 years on the show.
The moment was so moving that Nat struggled to compose herself when Kochie returned to the newsroom – prompting her equally visibly emotional co-host to reach for her hand.
In the hallway to say goodbye to Kochie were Weekend Sunrise presenters Matt Doran and Monique Wright, and Morning Show hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies.
Towards the end of the line came new Sunrise presenter Matt Shirvington, who gave Kochie a loving hug.
Actor Hans planted a kiss on the presenter’s forehead, leaving a bright red smear of lipstick there for the remainder of the segment.
“Oh dear,” Kochie said, wiping away tears.
Kochie’s wife, children and grandchildren were also seen – clapping their “Poppy” as he walked the halls.
Kochie hugged Dave Walters – affectionately known as Dougie – who had worked with Kochie throughout his time at Sunrise.
Arriving at the news desk, Kochie hugged fellow presenters Edwina Bartholomew, Natalie Barr and Mark Beretta in an emotional moment.
Sharing an insight into his relationship with Dougie, he told his colleagues, “He’s been on my ear for 21 years – you don’t understand the supportive team we have here at Sunrise.”
“Yes,” Nat said, struggling to compose himself. “You speak,” she told him.
“It helps us get through this,” Kochie added.
“They are the real heroes of this show.”
Kochie’s final day continues on Channel 7’s ‘Sunrise’ show.
