Kleinfeld Launches Trunk Show Sales and Launches Zales Collaboration – WWD

After years of discussions, Kleinfeld and Zales have joined forces to introduce a collection of lab-made diamond engagement and wedding bands.

Both parties celebrated the union with a roaring twenties-inspired launch party on Wednesday night at the wedding dress retailer’s New York flagship store. Staying true to the theme, the best choice for photo ops was the white Rolls-Royce Phantom III parked in front of the Kleinfeld store on West 20th Street.

Inside the store, the mood was just as festive as the New York Belles sang and played music while bartenders served pickle gimlets. Many guests dressed for the occasion in flapper dresses, sequined hats and button-hole shoes. Kleinfeld co-owner Mara Urshel adhered to the dress code and mingled with the guests. “After everything we’ve been through over the past few years, a roaring twenties party seems like a fun idea,” she said. “It was a natural extension for bridal wear.”

The 15-piece collaboration with Zales – a first for both companies – features lab-grown diamond jewelry inspired by wedding dresses. Engagement rings, necklaces and other jewelry are offered in 200 Zales stores. An engagement ring that’s just under 4 carats retails for nearly $9,000. A lab-created 7-carat diamond retails for $120,000. The union was talked about for years before both companies finalized the deal, Urshel said. The retailer’s Chief Executive Officer, Ronnie Rothstein, also attended the event.

Kleinfeld has had success with trunk shows – a recent three-day trunk show for Pnina Tornai grossed more than $500,000. A three-day for Anne Barge should fetch about $250,000, according to Urshel. This will be followed by another trunk show for Martina Liana, hosted by chief designer Martine Harris, who is flying in from Europe for the event.

The Kleinfeld x Zales collection features lab-created diamonds.

In other bridal-related news, wedding peer publication Love Inc. launched its first nationally distributed print edition through 40 major retailers in North America earlier this week. The wedding-centric publication was started by Brittny Drye about a decade ago. In a cover story, Brooke Eden spoke about being gay in the conservative country music scene, as well as her marriage. This season’s Love Inc. print edition will be available at more than 40 major retailers in North America.

Along with information on style, planning, inspiration, registration, travel destinations and post-wedding changes, the debut edition shows how to include weddings for all guests and how to break old wedding rules. There’s also information on gender-specific beauty brands and hotel-inspired home decor products suitable for wedding registries. And the October issue highlights eight LGBTQ weddings, including a famous one in Mexico.
