Early in his career with Golden Empire Warriors, the powerful striker Jonathan Kuminga made an impression. While his 6.5 points and 2.3 rebounds per night didn’t jump off the page, he got better and better with each game.
This included his strong display on Tuesday night in the win over the Detroit Pistons, when he scored 12 points and added 10 rebounds in 25 minutes of play. Wings of superstars Klay Thompson was blown away with the rookie’s performance.
Klay Thompson loves watching Jonathan Kuminga score a brace against Detroit
“How many 19-year-olds can play above the belt like him and go out there and win 12 and 10, a double in an NBA game?” Thompson said after the win. “I mean, I’m excited for JK’s future. He has an incredibly high ceiling and one day this will be his team, or he will be a huge part of this team. I see him as one of the better players in the league one day. ”
As you can tell from that quote from Thompson, he was hyped about Kuminga’s future with this team. In the 2021 NBA Draft, Golden State used an overall pick of 7 for the 6-foot-7 athlete, who weighed 225 pounds. Kuminga was the #1 prospect for his class while in high school, but he went the G-League route instead of signing with a university.
He matched with the Santa Cruz Warriors, then eventually joined Golden State when he qualified for the NBA. Now, Kuminga is making a lot of noise on his first campaign and a lot of people are excited to see how he can grow. This includes Thompson.
