Kirk Cousins has made it clear to the Minnesota Vikings that he will not enter into a rebate deal with the team.
Kirk cousins enters the final year of his current contract with the Minnesota Vikings, but the team has no plans to let him go free in the next offseason. But that leaves Minnesota under pressure to complete an extension.
They don’t want him entering the final year of his deal with an unknown future. However, Cousins knows his worth and there’s no chance he’ll take a discount before putting pen to paper.
The Minnesota Vikings have to deal with Kirk Cousins
Cousins has had another strong year for Minnesota as he threw for 4,221 yards, 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Despite those stats, the Vikings went 8-9 that year and missed the playoffs. The team had to watch Green Bay win the NFC North again despite the Packers choking in the playoffs.
For Cousins, he’s still only 33 years old and still has plenty in the tank. He’s ready to sign a multi-year extension and it feels like the ball is in court at the Minnesota front office. With new head coach Kevin O’Connell on board, it would make sense for Cousins to stick around for a while longer.
Cousins pushed for O’Connell to get the job since he served as his quarterbacks coach when Cousins was still in Washington. Fans are ready to see what O’Connell and cousins can achieve together. Big things are expected for 2022, but then we’ll have to wait and see what happens after that. The Vikings need to prioritize the Cousins expansion before week 1.
