Kirby and the Forgotten Land tops the UK box charts – the best-ever Kirby release in the country

Kirby and the Forgotten Land has jumped straight to the top of the UK physical chart after its first weekend on sale. Indeed, the UK public can’t get enough of Kirby’s first foray into full 3D gameplay, as the game has quickly become the fifth best-selling title in the long-running series and the biggest launch of all time in the US.

According to GI.biz, “Kirby and the Forgotten Land” sold “2.5x” in the UK than Kirby Star Allies, the best of the previous series. The Forgotten Land is a record breaker in the UK, becoming the first ever number one in the series.

In just under a week, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is “the fifth biggest Kirby game in the UK, just behind Kirby’s Adventure Wii and ahead of Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush”. While “it’s worth noting that Kirby is typically one of Nintendo’s smallest franchises in the UK,” those sales are impressive, especially considering it beat Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands to the top.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands entered the UK Boxing Chart at number two, while the other new release, Ghostwire Tokyo, missed the top ten entirely, entering the physical chart at number 11. Surprisingly, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe has re-entered the UK top ten, climbing from 17th to seventh place. People seem to be in the mood for a quality Nintendo platformer.
