Kimmel is not impressed with Washington commanders as a name (Video)

During Wednesday night’s monologue, Jimmy Kimmel took a moment to talk about some major football news – the fact that the NFL team in Washington, D.C. has finally picked a new name to replace the name. Old Racism: The Washington Commanders.
And Kimmel was really impressed, joking that the organization shouldn’t have taken two years to come up with it. And we don’t really disagree. He also had a pretty heavy insult to former Vice President Mike Pence, if that interests you.
Of course, the team that stopped being “The Washington Redskins” in 2020, finally admits that having a racist name isn’t a great look. From that time until yesterday, they were known simply as the “Washington Soccer Team,” which, honestly, is understandably short for an NFL team. Alas, after two years since then, today they finally announced the new name.
“The W stands for; why did it take you two years to come up with this?”, Kimmel joked in his monologue. “’The Commanders’ sounds like an action movie where Dolph Lundgren and Sylvester Stallone join forces to protect their assisted living facility. It’s correct?”
Kimmel joked that the official debut of the name looked like “a gender reveal party for a football team”, and then added sarcastically, “And just like that – she made the divide. Racism disappears!”
“I mean, ‘Commander’ is fine. It’s a perfectly fitting name for a football team,” Kimmel continued. “If you told me right now their name used to be ‘The Redskins,’; I wanted, ‘When, in the 1800s?’ When did that happen? ”
Kimmel then noted the interesting coincidence that the Washington Commanders share the same name as one of President Joe Biden’s dogs. “It’s good they didn’t name it after Trump’s dog,” he added. “Washington Pences. It doesn’t have the same ring as it. Do you understand what I mean?” Zing.
