Khetag Pliev is the most terrifying injury of the year for FanSided MMA

The horrible injury of the year of FanSided MMA belongs to Khetag Pliev.

Injuries are inevitable in a sport that requires endless mental and physical sacrifice. Over the years, injuries like Jon Jones’ broken toe and Anderson Silva’s broken leg have become some of the most memorable. MMA moment. With 2021 officially in the past, some of last year’s injuries will never be forgotten, including the winner for the most gruesome injury of the year.

CFFC 94 closes the curtain on April 1, 2021. In the co-main event, professional boxer and former Olympic wrestler Khetag Pliev went up against up-and-coming prospect Devin Goodale. Due to Pliev’s information, Goodale needed to pressure and overwhelm Pliev. The first round was a high-paced messy fight with a variety of techniques from both sides. In the second inning, the fight got weird.

During a grappling exchange in the second round, Goodale grabbed Pliev’s gloves to illegally land on his elbow. Commentators John Morgan and CM Punk were annoyed and said that the referee should have realized sooner. When the second round was over, Pliev went to his corner, holding his hand while looking at it. Morgan and Punk assumed he had broken his arm until the camera zoomed in.

When the dust settled, Pliev calmly sat down with missing finger on his left hand. The finger was missing for several minutes before being found. The finger was bent back into the glove, barely letting go. At first, the fight decided a TKO win for Goodale but eventually turned into a non-rivalry contest after that. Safe to say, you never know what will happen in an MMA fight. Fortunately, the finger was saved and reattached.

Honorable Mentions For Chris Weidman and Conor McGregor’s Broken Legs

Although Pliev won the award for most gruesome trauma, several other contenders could have easily won. First of all, Conor McGregor broke his leg in a three-way fight with Dustin Poirier. In the first round, McGregor fell backwards, and his left leg was broken in half. The whole stadium was shocked at the place where the superstar fell. Unfortunately, McGregor isn’t the only boxer to stumble in 2021.

Second, Chris Weidman’s stumble in front of Uriah Hall was terrifying. In the past, Silva’s infamous leg break was before Weidman. Fast forward to 2021, and Weidman ends up with the same injury. Any time a broken bone can be scary, but crossing your legs under your weight is a brutal thing. Between initial recognition and future rehabilitation, an MMA injury is easily one of the worst sports injuries possible. Pliev may have won awards, but identifying the most gruesome trauma of the year is never an easy task.
