The retired former UFC lightweight champion was announced as the inaugural inductee of the Class of 2022 Hall of Famers during the UFC 272 pay-per-view.

“Khabib is one of the greatest athletes to ever compete in professional sports,” That said UFC President Dana White via a press release from the promotion. “No one has dominated their opponents like Khabib and to retire undefeated as the lightweight champion and No. 1 pound-for-pound athlete in the world is an incredible achievement. Nurmagomedov made his professional MMA debut in 2008 and won 16 straight fights before signing with the UFC.

Nurmagomedov – who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a member of the Modern Era wing – made his UFC debut at a UFC on FX card in January 2012, defeating Kamal Shalorus by submission. He would fight his way through the lightweight division, defeating the likes of Rafael dos Anjos, Michael Johnson and Edson Barboza before winning the UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 223.

He would continue his dominance in the Octagon with a successful title defense against legendary heated rival Conor McGregor as well as Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. He shockingly retired after defeating Gaethje at UFC 254.

Nurmagomedov ended his UFC career with four lightweight title fights (the most in UFC history) and the record for most takedowns in a single UFC fight with 21 takedowns when he defeated Abel Trujillo at UFC 160.

Nurmagomedov currently serves as a trainer for Islam Makhachev, Umar Nurmagomedov, Abubakar Nurmagomedov, and Zubaira Tukhugov, as well as head of promotion for the Eagle Fighting Championship.
