Kevin Stefanski is doing what no Browns coach has done since 1999

Kevin Stefanski is proving his worth as the Cleveland Browns coach by doing something no coach on the team has been able to accomplish since the franchise restarted in 1999.

That Cleveland Browns took a 29-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football and thus, for the time being, the sole holders of the first place in the AFC North. For Kevin Stefanski, however, the win was particularly sweet and proves just how important he is as this team’s manager and why Browns fans should be excited.

Obviously, the Steelers dominated the AFC North in the 2000s. Meanwhile, the Browns have “tanned” over the past two decades since returning to the NFL.

Since 1999, when the Browns franchise was revived after a four-year hiatus, the Steelers have won their division ten times. The browns? Not once. As of Thursday night, the Browns had been 8-36-1 against the Steelers since 1999.

Kevin Stefanski’s Thursday Night Football win was historic for the Browns

Kevin Stefanski shows things could finally be changing with performance dynamics in the AFC North.

Field Yates pointed out that Stefanski is the first Browns coach since 1999 to win three times against the Steelers.

On the one hand, it’s quite remarkable that the Browns both lost so much to the Browns and that they’ve had so much coaching turnover that it hasn’t happened in over two decades. We’re not even talking about three straight wins, just three wins over the Steelers in total.

Stefanski is the team’s 12th coach since 1999, and so far he is 19-14. Of those 12, his win ratio (.576) is second only to Gregg Williams (.625), who only coached eight games as interim head coach during that period. All-time, Stefanksi has the fifth highest win rate in franchise history.

Cleveland is on the up… for once. Kevin Stefanski is doing what no Browns coach has done since 1999
