Kentucky basketball brings Gonzaga home and home

Kentucky basketball will play a marquee home-and-home series with the Gonzaga Bulldogs beginning this November in Spokane.

A match between Kentucky and Gonzaga is no longer reserved for the NCAA tournament alone.

This year, the two college basketball powerhouses will play the first of a home-and-home series in Washington in November. The series will travel to Lexington in 2023.

Considering what a big series this is set to be, she deserves a big announcement and she received one from UK head coach John Calipari and Zags head coach Mark Few.

It’s a way to show that two big brands will go head-to-head in the regular season.

This is only the second time the Wildcats and Bulldogs have met. They faced each other at the 2002 Maui Invitational. Kentucky won 80-72 over Few’s Zags. It was before Caliparis time.

However, it won’t be the first time Calipari and Few have met. They played four times while Calipari was in Memphis with the Tigers holding a 4-0 lead.

This matchup should be fun.

While Kentucky was embarrassed by Saint Peter’s in the first round of the tournament, the Wildcats are delivering a team with serious star power under the heading of Oscar Tshiebwe.

Few lost to big man Chet Holmgren, however he has Drew Timme and other faithful returnees. His program remains a strength in the West and will remain a favorite to contend for a title.

The only uncertainty at this point is where the game will be played in November. The Kennel, Gonzaga’s home on campus, only has a capacity of 6,000. A matchup of this magnitude could require a venue move to the 12,000-seat Spokane Arena. Stadium’s Jeff Goodman tweeted which would likely house the larger arena.
