The message behind the latest episode of the Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast is, “Let’s talk about sex, baby.” In the episode, titled “Has Porn Ruined Sex?”, Keke Palmer spoke about sex, intimacy, and joy in the Bedroom.
The 29-year-old actress recalled a previous sex talk she had during a TV appearance on The View. She said: “I will never forget it. I was on The View… and they had a talk about sex, a really great talk. Whoopie Goldberg said, “Please just start pleasing yourself.” And I thought, ‘That sounds true.’ “
The “Nope” star previously believed that sex was about taking care of the other person and not yourself.
“My identity with sex was always based on ‘Oh, I just gotta do this ministry’ and my joy… any joy I had at that time, at that time, at that time came from ‘me.’ I’m glad they’re happy,” she said. “That was depressing and not enough because I was like, ‘Well, wait a damn minute. That’s not it.’ You know what I mean? So it’s been a journey of finding what works for me.”
The Primetime Emmy winner said she’s never had a “happy ending” to porn-style sex. She added that she takes the “emotional approach” when it comes to intimacy.
“For once in my life I thought porn simulation sex — because that’s what it sounds like to me, porn: simulated sex — might be interesting or funny,” she shared. “But I never really had a happy ending from it, if I’m, you know, slightly honest. I’ve only had a real happy ending with a more reserved, calmer, more emotional approach.”
Goldberg may end up sharing more advice with Palmer if she lands a role in the movie Sister Act 3. In a Variety interview, the 67-year-old revealed the former Nickelodeon star as one of her top picks for the third part of the film. After Palmer saw the news in October tweeted“I’m always here for you Whoopi!”
In 2016, Palmer released the music video for her sultry R&B single “I Don’t Belong To You.” The black and white clip shows the former child star getting dressed, showering and getting up with a man. The ending surprised fans when Palmer showed up at a woman’s home in lingerie. Some debated whether the video was her coming-out story or a publicity stunt.
“The video should represent the young woman of today. It’s not the traditional woman anymore and not the specifics of “Am I gay? am i straight Am I bi?” she told People magazine at the time. “I make the rules for myself and don’t have to tie myself to a label.”
She continued, “I don’t feel the need to define anything for anyone because I’m always changing. Why say I am this or that when tomorrow I may not be?” I will follow my own feelings and my own heart.”
