Kanye West Slammed For ‘Tone Deaf’ Apology For George Floyd Comments, Rapper Later Targets Floyd’s Daughter’s Mother

KanyeWest‘s The storm of anti-Semitic remarks and conspiracy theories surrounding the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers in May 2020 appears to have been muted after the “Donda” host attempted to sympathize with and apologize to Floyd’s family. West recently falsely claimed that fentanyl played a role in the 46-year-old’s death. The comments came after several companies including Vogue, GAP and Adidas cut ties with the rapper.
In a press conference with paparazzi on Friday night, October 28, captured by Consequence, the 24-time Grammy Award winner tried to apologize for his recent comments about Floyd and his death: “When I see this video as a Black person , it hurts my feelings,” began the 46-year-old, who has legally changed his name to Ye.

“And I know the police are attacking [sic] and that America in general is racist. And I understand that we felt good as a people when we had to say Black Lives Matter,” he added. “Well after that there were some things that the money went into to push us to vote democratically.”
“So when I questioned the death of George Floyd, it hurt my people,” he continued. “I want to apologize. Because God has shown me what Adidas is doing, what the media is doing, I know what it feels like to have a knee on the back of my neck right now. So thank you God for humbling me and knowing me “Let’s see how it really feels. Because how could the richest black men ever be humiliated other than by making a comment about not being a billionaire.”
However, many online critics appeared to dismiss the gesture, with some calling the attempt insensitive, including one Twitter user who wrote: “His response is so deaf. Losing a multi-million dollar deal is nothing like being killed by the police. And since his supporters say, ‘You guys are using a strategy to get out of the deals,’ he doesn’t mean it.”
Another person added: “Kind of like a daredevil trying to jump over the Grand Canyon. He definitely jumped, but he definitely didn’t make it.”
A third person noted, “He still doesn’t get it.” Some argued West had no room to compare himself to Floyd. “Kanye is alive and doing this to himself. George is dead and was murdered. Not remotely the same,” commented a fourth person.
While the full interview was redacted from the now-posted show, during his second appearance on the Drink Champs podcast with rapper NORE and DJ EFN, which aired Saturday, Oct. 15 on YouTube and Revolt TV, West claimed, “If You look, the guy’s knee wasn’t even on his neck… like that,” alluding to the cellphone footage that captured the final moments of the victim’s life.
As many critics have pointed out, West’s apology comes after his professional ties and empire, which include music, fashion and tennis shoes, have taken several hits over the past few weeks over his comments – most notably, his allegation that Floyd is afflicted with fentanyl died.
Shortly thereafter, the mother of George Floyd’s daughter, Roxie Washington, filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit against the designer for spreading “malicious untruths” on her daughter’s behalf.
Shortly after Ye apologized to the family, he sent a direct message to Washington and accused them of greed in a now-deleted Instagram post.
“Now for Roxie Washington and Roxie Washington ALONE,” the rapper began. “I gave $2 million out of my pocket to the family. To help George’s daughter… your daughter!”
“I can guarantee that most of the people who came after my comments about me weren’t doing what I was doing! Even those with millions of dollars in the bank!
“How much did BLM give???? He added: “Many gave words. I ACTED.”
He then suggested that she only cares about the money and brought up his recent business losses.
“Now you want to sue me for words for $250 million…”
“…if I go through an economic lynching. A digital lynching. A bankruptcy of social credit. Either you are being controlled or you are greedy…”
He ended his post by saying, “God doesn’t like ugly” and poked fun at what she was wearing in the photo he posted of her.
West appears to be trying to mend other relationships after taking to his Instagram account while “still allowed on the Mark Zuckerberg platform” and demanding to “see the contracts.” In a memo posted to his page, the rapper wrote, “Let’s look at the contracts / the movie contracts / the sports contracts / the music contracts / the mortgages,” he wrote, using poetic form.
He added. “Let’s look at the contracts/ So we can or will do better deals/ I’ve been beaten to a pulp and there’s still no accountability.”
