Kansas basketball now has the most wins in NCAA basketball history after beating Providence

The Kansas Jayhawks are heading to the Elite Eight after their win over the Providence Friars. They made history in the process.

The Kansas Jayhawks are the only #1 seed left in the NCAA Tournament after both Gonzaga and Arizona lost Thursday night. To avoid the top three seeded teams being eliminated in the same round, the Jayhawks will have to beat the Providence Friars Captain No.

Kansas defeated Providence 66-61 to advance to the Elite Eight and made history in the process. It was the Jayhawks’ 2,534th all-time win, the most in Division I history.

That is sure to make Jayhawks fans a lot happier as they celebrate Friday night. Not so much for Providence, who was just short of making it into the Elite Eight for the first time since 1997.

The Jayhawks had to hold off the Friars in the second half. Providence, who scored just 17 points in the first half, exited the locker room and dropped to 44th. However, that wasn’t enough, as Kansas held them back with 40 points in the final 20 minutes.

Kansas put on a superb performance from senior keeper Remy Martin, who scored 23 points (7 for 13 on the field, 8 for 13 on the free throw) and picked up 7 rebounds from the bench. Second forward Jalen Wilson scored a brace by scoring 16 points and picking up 11 rebounds.

The Jayhawks will now face the No. 10 Miami (Fla.) and No. 11 Iowa winners for a chance to reach the Finals for the first time since 2018.
