One way to get under Kandi Burruss’ skin in an argument is to talk about her husband, Todd Tucker. At one point during the run of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, one of the most prominent comments directed at Kandi revolved around her “attracting Todd” once they became an item.
This supposed belief doesn’t just get under Kandi’s skin, however; Todd’s eldest daughter, Kaela Tucker, sat down with Dj Aone on an episode of “Speak On It With Aone and Guests,” where she opened up about the ongoing misunderstanding.
Kaela has staunchly denied claims that her father rides Kandi’s coattails, as some might think, and also noted that life in New York before Todd and Kandi became a couple was a “cool” lifestyle.
“We had a cool lifestyle, I lived in a penthouse in New York.” She explained on the YouTube show.
Though it’s easy for the aspiring model to banish all negativity from her life these days, Kaela revealed it wasn’t always like this. She admitted how hard it was listening to fans’ harsh comments about her father and family.
“When I first moved here, when I was with my dad and everything was happening, I was like, ‘This is awful.’ Even people saying certain things from the show and saying how they edit things, that was very new to me, so I find that awful.
Kaela was first introduced in the show’s 11th season when she was just 22 years old. Now that she’s older, the 26-year-old can look back and see how much she’s been affected by being in the spotlight.
“It was a lot of emotional trauma at the time, like it took me a long time to get here. I used to cry a lot.” She continued, “I even said to my mother, ‘They don’t know him, they don’t know us,’ and wondered why they were so crazy about us.’ ”
Kaela and Todd have not always agreed in the past; One of the main issues the father-daughter duo faced was their inability to communicate properly with each other. Although their published drama may have strained their relationship in the past, she explained the understanding her father needed to have in order for their relationship to improve.
“I feel like we both have an understanding like, ‘Dad, I need you for a father. You can be a businessman but I need a father, like hello.’ ”
While Kaela admitted she doesn’t like doing reality TV, she appeared to be able to heal past wounds inflicted on her in the spotlight.
