Justin Chon is directing the Jason Momoa series

Apple TV+ has been a streaming service that has attracted plenty of A-list talent over the past few years. One of the players in their content family is Jason Momoa who star in their hit post-apocalyptic series See. The streamer recently announced another show with Momoa, war chief, and now this upcoming limited series has just found its first director. Reported exclusively by Variety, Justin Chon will officially direct the first two episodes of the series. Chon will also serve as an executive producer on these two episodes.
Chon remains in the Apple family with this project, having directed and executive produced several episodes of the critically acclaimed series pachinko for the streamer. Chon also directed, wrote and starred blue bayou where he played opposite Alicia Vikander. Additional credits from the director include Chon directing, writing and starring in the film Good as well as directing and writing the film Mrs. Purple. He also directed, wrote, and acted man up as well as starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior. Chon’s next function, Jamojayais currently in post-production.
Not much is known about this yet war chief Aside from being described as an “epic tale of the unification and colonization of Hawaii from an indigenous perspective.” Momoa is co-writing the series Thomas Pa’a Sibbett. The couple is also executive producing on the project Franz Laurent, Peter Tschernin, Jenno Topping, Erik Holmberg Chonand Doug Young. The latter will also act as showrunner. Finally, Endeavor Content and Chernin Entertainment are producing the series.
Chon has had a very successful career so far, with almost all of his films receiving very positive reviews. For that reason, it will be exciting to see what he brings visually to this series. Since Chon is an actor himself, this will likely strengthen the emotional bond between what’s on the page and the cast’s on-screen interpretation.
By all accounts, this appears to be a very personal project for Momoa given that he is writing the series and is of Hawaiian background. Now that this eight-episode limited series has its first director, we should soon be hearing more news about the series regarding the other directors, cast, and production start date. Until then, you can watch Momoa doing it See on Apple TV+, which was recently renewed for a third season.
