On the ground, the Brazilian also took control on the ground and didn’t give Omargadzhiev a chance to recover. In the third round, Omargadzhiev seemed desperate for a heavy hit but missed the opportunity.
As the fight continued, both fighters tried their best to reach out to each other. After that, Borralho landed a solid knee to the head and the fight was immediately stopped by the referee. UFC Vegas 51: Caio Borralho’s controversial win over Gadzhi Omargadzhiev
After the knee landed on the head, the fight ended and it was up to the judges to determine the winner. And after three rounds, the judges decided the fight 29-27 in favor of Caio Borralho via technical decision.
The decision was controversial as the fight was considered illegal Omargadzhievs A hand lay on the floor. However, the referee decided to ignore the knee as it looked random and wasn’t intentional. The MMA community hasn’t taken the decision lightly as they’ve gone mad on the internet. The fans believed that the result was unfair and that Omargadzhiev should have won the fight.
One of the main reasons for such a reaction could be fight fans’ already pent-up anger at UFC 273’s UFC judges. During UFC’s last PPV event, two fights were very controversial and the results were not fully accepted. Some fans claimed that both the fights between Chimaev and Burns and between Yan and Sterling were not scored accurately.
As long as MMA exists, there will be cases like this where fighters and fans may not accept what the judges decide. But in the end, not much can be done but if the fight goes to the judges, then their decision is final.
