Gorman has long been considered one of the Cardinals’ top picks, ranking #1 in the team’s pipeline for the 2021 season. Last May, Gorman received his call-up to the majors after the team traded Tommy Edman to shortstop following Paul DeJong’s demotion.

This season, Gorman is posting .223/.299/.411 while recording nine home runs, 22 RBI, 26 runs made and 39 hits.

Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported last weekend that rival executives believe the Cardinals are the favorites to land Soto. That, and the two write in their article that the Nationals like the young players and prospects of the Cardinals.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported that the Nationals were there Looking for four to five young players in exchange for Soto. This number of players is a combination of prospects and big leagues with little service time.

The trade deadline is August 2, and fans will be anxiously waiting to see if Washington pulls away from Soto.
