Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto hit his first home run of the season on opening day.
The opening day of the 2022 MLB season had finally arrived on Thursday, April 7th. While two games were postponed due to weather, seven matches were on the schedule, including the Washington Nationals hosting rival New York Mets.
Nationals fans probably weren’t happy with most of the game, having gone scoreless in the sixth inning and trailing 4-0 to the Mets. That all changed, however, when star outfielder Juan Soto hit his first home run of the season and sent the Trevor May-thrown baseball into orbit. That cut Washington’s deficit to 4-1.

Soto hit the 99th homer of his career. The fans reacted to Soto throwing that baseball on the second deck of Nationals Park.
As the Nationals Twitter account said, Soto is on track for 162 homers this season. Most home runs Soto hit in a single season was 34 in 2019.
Soto is hoping for another great year like 2021, where he finished second in NL MVP voting after leading the league in on-base percentage (.465), walks (145) and intentional walks (23) while finishing 29 after Home runs recorded and 95 RBI.
The solo homer was actually the only run the Nationals scored as they lost 5-1 to the Mets.
