Follow Chris Hummer of Sports 247. Daniels will be ranked red-shirt senior at his next stop, but he has two years of eligibility left thanks to the NCAA’s mass exemption for COVID-19.
Also, wide receiver Jermaine Burton has entered the transfer portal, according to Hummer. Burton is the Bulldogs’ top wide receiver with 497 yards and five touches, second only to freshman Brock Bowers in both categories.
Daniels enters the 2021 season as the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback and leads the previous 10-3 Week 1 win-No. 3 Clemson after 135 yards pass. However, Daniels has been limited for much of the season after multiple midfield injuries affected his ability to throw. He completed 72.3% of his passes for 722 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions in five appearances.
Stetson Bennett IV eventually kept the job that started in Daniels’ absence and led the Bulldogs to their first national championship since 1980.
Daniels arrived in Georgia in the spring of 2020 after moving from USC, where he also suffered from injury problems that led to the team going in a different direction in midfield. Daniels suffered a season-ending knee injury in 2019, leading the Troys to use Kedon Slovis as a substitute for the remainder of the season.
That ultimately contributed to Daniels entering the transfer portal, although he is not fit to play in 2020 until the end of the year. However, Daniels thrived in the final starting role, going 4-0 in the Bulldogs’ final game of the season, which included a win over Cincinnati at the Peach Bowl. Daniels completed 67.2% of his passes with 10 touchdowns and two touchdowns in wins.
As one of the top national rookies of 2018, Daniels arrived at USC as a consensus 5-star prospect and the #3 QB player in the nation, just ahead of Trevor Lawrence and Justin Field. However, Daniels is now preparing to land in his third destination in five years.
Where will Daniels look?
Daniels moved to Georgia hoping to quickly rebuild his stock after losing his starter job to Slovis at USC. Amid injuries and on-field struggles, Daniels was eventually sidelined for Bennett, a former substitute, as the Bulldogs won their first national championship since 1980.
Now, Daniels will almost certainly be looking for another position to play his way back NFL Drafts potential. The most obvious position would be Oregon, where Bulldogs defensive coordinator Dan Lanning currently takes over as head coach. The Ducks have problems for the position in 2021 and could easily be looking for a fresh start with a five-star ex-player, although he will also have to contend with former Auburn defender Bo Nix.
Elsewhere, Lane Kiffin is looking for a successor to the predicted first-round midfielder Matt Corral at Ole Miss. This midfield-friendly system can play to Daniels’ strengths. Another QB-friendly system will be available at TCU, where Daniels will be coached by quarterback specialists Sonny Dykes and Garrett Riley. At the Group of Five level, San Diego State, Appalachian State and Liberty are powerful programs that can be taken to another level with the addition of Daniels. His best way to NFL The consideration is simple: sustained success while staying healthy.
What it means for Georgia
Thanks to an extra year of NCAA-granted status, Bennett is eligible to return to play for another season in 2022. However, he has yet to announce his intentions at this time. Regardless of whether or not Bennett comes back, the Bulldogs should be in good shape.
Freshmen Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff are both former blue-chip players, although the pair have only had 24 career passes in aggregate. The Bulldogs also added 4-star defender Gunner Stockton in the Class of 2022.
If Bennett chooses to go through, he will join a long list of NFL-bound Bulldogs, including backing James Cook and Zamir White, offensive lead Jamaree Sayer and receiver George Pickens. However, 5 years of elite selection means that the Bulldogs will be fine.
