The DCEU has seen some ups and downs since the release of Zack Snyder‘s man of Steel back in 2013. However, one of the most famous aspects of this particular universe was Ben Affleck‘s version of Batman. Affleck was such an amazing Dark Knight, taking on the character’s tragedy in a uniquely dark way. Besides how Michael Keaton Before him, Affleck was not a popular choice for the role in the eyes of fans. Batfleck was in a long line of actors wanted for the iconic role and now we know of another famous actor who almost landed the part. On MTV’s Happy Sad Confused Podcast With Josh Horowitz, dune and Avengers: Infinity War Actor Josh Brolin announced he was ready to play Snyder’s Batman.
“That was interesting to me,” Brolin said, going on to say, “That was his choice, that wasn’t my choice.” He then joked about how he liked the odds of being a part of something that could either fail completely or fail could become huge hit while referring to George Clooney’s brief stint in spandex. Brolin ended the Batman conversation by saying, “It would have been scratchier the older it was, for lack of a better word. Honestly, that would have been a fun deal. And maybe I’ll do it when I’m 80.”
It’s always fun to think about what could have been if a famous actor had played an iconic character over the actor we actually got. As Brolin mentioned in the interview, this was a time before actor Cable was involved dead pool 2 and just before Brolin would debut as the big bad Thanos in the MCU Guardians of the Galaxy. There was a lot of Brolin fan art as Batman at the time. However, if he were to be the character for Batman vs Superman, who knows how that would have affected this divisive sequel. Although BvS While making money, it may have done even better financially, leading to us now gearing up for Brolin’s second or third Batman film. If Brolin’s Batman had happened, he probably never would have been Cable, or maybe they would have had to recast Thanos avenger movies because the actor was too busy being the old man Wayne.
Brolin would have made a great Batman, but then we would have gotten Batflek or not at all Robert Pattinson in the role. As Brolin also joked, we could see him becoming an icon at 80. Stranger things have happened when Keaton recently returned to the role after a 30-year absence. To ponder what could have been, you can listen to Brolin’s full Batman conversation below.
