John Ross reacts to Tyquan Thornton breaking his 40-yard dash record

Giants wide receiver John Ross was just as impressed with Tyquan Thornton’s insane 40-yard dash time, even as it broke his NFL combine record.

Donte’ Stallworth’s NFL combine record for fastest 40-yard dash time stood for 15 years before John Ross broke it in 2017.

Ross’ own record lasted only five years before it was (apparently) broken.

On Thursday, Baylor’s Tyquan Thornton ran an unofficial 40-yard dash in just 4.21 seconds. When that unofficial time stands, it will crown Thornton as the fastest man in Combine history.

How did the former Washington star react?

Ross took it well, praising Thornton as “Blazer!”

Ross also had a message for people on Twitter who were expecting a different answer.

“You guys are crazy to think I’m mad that he broke it. Happy for bro lol honestly this is fr!!” Ross tweeted.

He went on to tell another user, “They wanted to be broken lol.”

Ross’ ridiculous speed earned him the ninth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. He continued to play for the Bengals but never lived up to his selection. He only played three games as a rookie and had his best season in 2019 with 506 yards on 28 receptions while playing just eight games.

In 2021, he signed a one-year contract with the Giants and caught 11 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown.

Thornton was a Four Star Contender in the Class of 2018 and played at Baylor for four years. His senior season was his brightest at 948 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He hasn’t generated much draft buzz so far, but you can bet he’s increased his stocks with this run. After all, 6-foot-3 receivers that can walk 4.21 40 don’t just grow on trees.
