John Farnham Cancer Update: Singer out of surgery and in ‘stable condition’

Australian music icon John Farnham has not had surgery and is in stable condition after it was revealed Tuesday he had been diagnosed with cancer.

“John’s surgery began at 8am this morning and was successfully completed by 7:30pm this evening,” the family said in a statement released Tuesday night.

“He has now been transferred to intensive care and is in stable condition.”

Earlier Tuesday, Farnham’s family made the shocking announcement that the music legend was already in hospital to prepare for a grueling 12-hour operation to remove a tumor.

“We recently discovered that John has a cancerous growth,” the statement said.

“He was admitted to the hospital for surgery and ongoing treatment.”

“Being diagnosed with cancer is something that so many people face every day, and countless others have walked this journey before me,” Farnham, 73, said in a statement.

“The one thing I do know for sure is that we have the best specialist healthcare professionals in Victoria and for that we can all be grateful.

“I know I am.”

Sunrise entertainment reporter Peter Ford said Tuesday that Farnham was “in high spirits” ahead of the surgery and was “joking with the staff.”

Ford said a source has confirmed Farnham’s wife, Jill, and his two sons, Robert and James, are in the hospital with him.

“The family does not want to disclose what the cancer is at this time,” Ford said.

“They have confirmed to me that it is a tumor that needs to be removed, but they do not want to say at this point where it is on the body.”

The news that the You’re The Voice singer had emerged from surgery in stable condition was met with relief from fans around the world.

“Sending my love and prayers to John and his family,” one fan wrote.

“Thanks for the update, I couldn’t believe the news when I woke up this morning,” said another.

“Sending love and get well soon from London to our hometown boy.”

“Thank you for the update! That is very much appreciated here in Germany,” wrote a third.

“I only found out about the news this morning…actually 9 hours later.

“Hope John is well and everything will be fine soon.”
