The story was first published as a novel in 1917 under the title “Mars princess. The heroic character went on to star in a series of Burroughs epic novels, all set on Barsoom, where John Carter Raised to immortal warrior and savior of alien inhabitants.
Now after decades attached to books and side comics, and 10 years later the ill-fated $250 million”John Carter“Disney feature starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe, the charismatic Martian warlord is returning as a new comic series releasing this spring from the folks at Dynamite Entertainment.
Written by Eisner Award-winning Chuck Brown (“Bitter Root,” “Aquamen”) and featuring acclaimed illustrator and colorist George Kambadais (“Firefly”),”John Carter of Mars #1“landing in comic stores this April with a new set of adventures in the kingdoms of Barsoom and Earth.
The plot that takes place in 1919 is a strange one small planet is made up entirely of the “ninth” streak element towards Earth. Its mysterious effects began to strangely blend and transform the inhabitants of both Earth and Barsoom.
John Carter, Lord of Mars, finds himself torn from the foundation of his life and loved ones. He struggles to make sense of this cosmic conundrum while suddenly being transported back to Virginia, where he encounters hominids on Mars. If these strange events occur on his home planet, what strange calamities might befall his dear Barsoom?
“I’ve always been a huge fan of sci-fi and adventure,” writer Chuck Brown said in one Dynamite press release. “Like many of us, as a child, I was obsessed with Mars and the other planets in our solar system. Barsoom has such great characters and settings. Because So it’s a great opportunity for George and I to play in this world.”
Dynamite’s “John Carter of Mars #1“will be out in April with special variation covers by Junggeun Yoon, Jonathan Case and two more by ‘Dejah Thoris’ veteran Joseph Michael Linsner and series interior artist Kambadais.
