Cincinnati Reds legend Joey Votto enjoyed chatting with a young Cubs fan Thursday night and even hit a home run for him.
Wrigley Field is a baseball cathedral for good reason. This is where dreams come true, even when the Cubs are doing badly.
Chicago’s North Side team isn’t doing very well this season. It’s a sad sight, but the Cubs’ rebuild is likely at least a year away. They will be sold as of this year’s deadline.
Still, Wrigley is still pulling a number of dedicated Chicago baseball fans, if only for the atmosphere and experience of watching a game in one of baseball’s finest stadiums. Votto understands this story and his responsibility to pass on memories from one generation to the next.

The kid, who was wearing a Cubs jersey at the time, might want to swap that for a Reds number 19. Votto just made his night – no, maybe his year – by chatting to him in the front row and delivering a once in a lifetime moment.
Ironically, Chicago defeated the Reds Thursday night with the final score of 15-7. However, Votto was 3-for-5 with that solo home run.
He did too a lifelong fan.
