In mid-March, The Hollywood Reporter announced that JJ Abrams was developing a biopic series about legendary rock group U2 at his Bad Robot production company. Also, the still untitled project is expected to find a home at Netflix. The project will be a series of screenplays created in collaboration with Academy Award nominee Anthony McCarten whose previous work in the biographical genre includes the Best Picture winner focusing on into the “Bohemian Rhapsody” Queen. In addition to his recent hit, McCarten has also written projects including “Theory of Everything,” “The Two Popes,” and “The Darkest Hour,” which earned him a reputation for fame in both film and television. Plot details are currently being finalized. As such, it’s still unclear exactly what part of U2’s history the series will capture, or whether it will continue everything from the beginning to the present day. At this time, there are no details on the casting of any members of the U2 group, such as Bono or The Edge, although curious potential audiences can imagine the actions. That selection process will be interesting to follow. That said, the sparse details that have emerged about the project seem to suggest that the band is involved in the project to some extent. The upcoming series has no official release date announced, nor the total number of episodes revealed at this time.
