Jim Harbaugh addresses rumors of leaving Michigan for the NFL

Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh addressed rumors of him leaving the Wolverines for the NFL by making jokes last year.

There are seven head coach jobs hiring in the NFL at the moment, and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh could be a candidate for any of them if you believe the rumours.

The former 49ers head coach is a hot name in the market after leading the Wolverines to the College Football Knockout Qualifiers.

What does he have to say about all the talk?

“This year is a bit more exciting than last year’s rumours,” Harbaugh said ahead of the Paul “Bear” Bryant awards ceremony for coach of the year.

It is certainly more interesting to be talked about as a candidate for lucrative positions than there are rumors surrounding the possibility of a layoff, which is what Harbaugh addressed last year.

Michigan chose to bring Harbaugh back under a restructured contract and that paid off for all involved as he had his best season to date with the Wolves.

The downside of having a successful coach is that suitors are sure to call. So Michigan fans are naturally holding their breath right now.

Harbaugh’s answer is clever, but it won’t assuage any fears about his return to the NFL.

After building Stanford from a doormat to a Pac-12 contender, Harbaugh took over as head coach of the 49ers in 2011. He led them to the Super Bowl in its second season. but his tenure quickly fell apart. He and San Francisco officially agreed to part ways at the end of 2014. A few days later he took over as head coach at Michigan.

Now it’s a waiting game to see if the franchise will draw him back to the pros or whether his loyalty to Michigan will prevail.
