New York Jets rookie defender Zach Wilson is back, but doesn’t quite know if it was by design or need.
Every Cimini is rich of ESPN, Wilson is on track to start for next Sunday’s game in the Houston Texans after this year’s draft overall 2nd pick missed the past four competitions with a PCL sprain injury. Interestingly, this news came as the Jets placed signal callers Mike White and Joe Flacco on the standby/COVID-19 roster.
Both White and Flacco started in Wilson’s absence, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports White tested positive for COVID-19. Flacco, meanwhile, announced last week he is not vaccinated against coronavirus and is considered a high-risk close contact.
Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk notes that Super Bowl XLVII’s Best Player will have to be isolated from the team for at least five days as a close bond. Flacco will take a minimum of 10 days off work if the test results are positive.
Vaccinated players who test positive may return to team activities sooner by providing two negative virus tests at least 24 hours apart and are asymptomatic. White’s status for Sunday’s game is being released.
Wilson was largely struggling before the injury, to the point where some argue that coach Robert Saleh should sit on the pro first-year bench regardless of his health. Every ESPN Overall, Wilson is 31st with a 27.0 QBR total and has four touchdown passes with nine interceptions.
Journeyman Josh Johnson will be Wilson’s backup if the Jets have to play today.
