Jessica Henwick (iron fist) and Hugo Weben (Lord of the Rings) have joined the cast of a dark thriller titled The Royal Hotel. You join Julia Garner (ozark) to star in the film being directed kitty green (The assistant).

The film is inspired by the documentary Hotel Coolgardie, which tells a rather disturbing true story. Garner plays Hannah, who is “backpacking around Australia with her best friend Liv (Henwick). After running out of money, the women take jobs at The Royal Hotel, a bar in a remote mining town in the Australian outback.”

Weaving will play Billy, the bar’s owner, who “has no hesitation in introducing the women to Australia’s hardcore drinking culture along with some locals. But when their behavior crosses the line, Hannah and Liv find themselves in a nerve-wracking situation that quickly spirals out of control.”

This is a great and talented cast and it sounds like this is going to make for a solid flick. I would watch anything these actors are involved in.

producers Emil Sherman and Ian Canning said in a statement, “Kitty has a truly distinctive cinematic voice and we are thrilled to be collaborating with her on this gripping rollercoaster ride into the heart of the Australian outback.”

manufacturer of seesaws Liz Watts added: “As we saw with ‘The Assistant’, ‘The Royal Hotel’ will get under the viewer’s skin and induce a feeling of adrenaline and a nervous compulsion to watch. We are delighted to add the incredible Jessica Henwick and Hugo Weaving to our cast alongside the brilliant Julia Garner.”

HanWay Films MD Gabrielle Stewart said: “We are extremely excited to be collaborating with See-Saw Films on ‘The Royal Hotel.’ Following in the thematic footsteps of The Assistant, this time Kitty Green gets to fuel the suspense with a terrifying, entertaining, yet all too recognizable tale of young women confronting the toxic male environment that threatens their trip of a lifetime. A universal story that is terribly recognizable.”

Here is the description of the documentary on which the film is based: “On a dusty highway between Australia’s most remote city and its biggest gold mine lies Coolgardie – where a new pair of foreign backpackers arrive every three months to work the city’s only bar is a with.” Eagerly awaited event. Fresh off the plane and lured by the promise of an authentic outback experience, Finnish travelers Lina and Steph find themselves on their way to a point on the map – to pour beers, fill empty travel coffers and live among the locals. But her working vacation quickly degenerates into a baptism of fire. Accused by their new boss, relentlessly pursued by alcoholic patrons, and victims of the insanity and malaise of an environment as claustrophobic as it is isolated — the girls soon realize they need to do more to live up to expectations out here—just serve drinks.”
